Indonesian graduate students play an important role in orangutan research and conservation; Great Ape Trust provided $5,250 in 2007 for one year’s tuition, fees, and research expenses for two graduate students at the National University of Indonesia. Participants in the 2nd Annual Bowlathon for Great Apes voted to guarantee a second year of support. This will help produce a larger and new generation of professional primatologists in Indonesia. Whether these students ultimately work in an academic or governmental setting, their training is certain to reinforce efforts to conserve orangutans and the forests in which they live. |
